Sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe
MATERIAL ANALYSIS INSTRUMENT PRIMARILY USED FOR GEOLOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL APPLICATIONS
SHRIMP; Sensitive high resolution ion microprobe
The sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (also sensitive high mass-resolution ion microprobe or SHRIMP) is a large-diameter, double-focusing secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) sector instrument produced by Australian Scientific Instruments in Canberra, Australia. Similar to the IMS 1270-1280-1300 large-geometry ion microprobes produced by CAMECA, Gennevilliers, France and like other SIMS instruments, the SHRIMP microprobe bombards a sample under vacuum with a beam of primary ions that sputters secondary ions that are focused, filtered, and measured according to their energy and mass.

Image resolution

Image resolution is the detail an image holds. The term applies to digital images, film images, and other types of images. "Higher resolution" means more image detail.

Image resolution can be measured in various ways. Resolution quantifies how close lines can be to each other and still be visibly resolved. Resolution units can be tied to physical sizes (e.g. lines per mm, lines per inch), to the overall size of a picture (lines per picture height, also known simply as lines, TV lines, or TVL), or to angular subtense. Instead of single lines, line pairs are often used, composed of a dark line and an adjacent light line; for example, a resolution of 10 lines per millimeter means 5 dark lines alternating with 5 light lines, or 5 line pairs per millimeter (5 LP/mm). Photographic lens and are most often quoted in line pairs per millimeter.

Examples of use of high-resolution
1. The new Hubble observations are the first high–resolution, ultraviolet images ever acquired of the moon.
2. The woman, who was not identified, was using a printer that produced high resolution copies.
3. "These high resolution images of Mars are thrilling, and unique given the early morning time of day," said Alfred McEwen, principal investigator for the orbiter‘s High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment camera.
4. Keck Observatory captured a high–resolution picture of both spots on July 20.
5. And it will gather high–resolution information on minerals visible on the surface.
